REGULAR MEMBER


A Regular Member is a physician who:

Is duly licensed to practice medicine in the Philippines.

Is a member in good standing of the Philippine Medical Association (PMA).

Must have completed satisfactorily a Basic Course on Occupational Medicine

given by the College, by the College of Public Health of the University of the

Philippines, or by institutions duly recognized by the government.


Must have been in active practice* of Occupational Medicine as defined by the

College, whether in private or government service, on full time or part time

basis, for at least two years.


An individual who completes the Basic Course on Occupational Medicine with

the College or any accredited institution and who takes further Residency

Training in Occupational Medicine may be a regular member of the College on

the third year of Residency Training. An endorsement from the hospital

training institution shall be submitted to PCOM upon application.


*Active practice is defined as teaching, research, health service and/or health

policy and administration in the field of Occupational Health and Medicine, and

similar tasks related to the same.

DIPLOMATE


A Diplomate is a physician who:

Possesses all the qualifications of a Regular Member in good standing.

Has completed the Diplomate Course on Occupational

Medicine conducted by the College, or a Diploma, Master’s

degree in Occupational Health or the prescribed residency

training program on occupational medicine conducted by an

Accredited Institution.


Passed the written and oral examinations given by the PCOM

Specialty Board.

FELLOW


A Fellow is a physician who:

1.Is a Diplomate and a member in good standing of the College.


2.Has been engaged in the active practice of Occupational Medicine as

defined by the College, whether in private or government service, on a

full time or part time basis, for at least five (5) years from Diplomate

status;


3.Has served the college in whatever capacity with distinction and

merit as determined and recognized by the National Board of Directors

and the Specialty Board

Requirements for Application for Fellow:

a. Letter of application for Fellow status

b. Curriculum vitae

c. Job description

d. Health Programs developed/implemented with certificates of accomplishment certified by

HR/Employer

e. Certificate of good standing from PCOM

f. Certificate of good standing from PMA

g. Endorsement letter from Chapter President

h. Photocopy of updated Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) license

i. Certificates of Attendance to medical conventions and seminars for the last 5 years


Application to the College for Diplomate or Fellow is filed with the PCOM Specialty Board. All

documents submitted are reviewed and validated by the Membership and Credentials

Committee. Upon recommendation of the Specialty Board, the National Board of Directors, by a

two-thirds vote, shall confer the title of Diplomate or Fellow upon the applicant.

LIFE MEMBER:

A life member is a current member who:

1. Has been in good standing for at least 10 years preceding the

application.

2. Has duly filed an application for life membership and such

application has been approved by the Board of Directors by a

two-thirds vote.

3. Has paid the Life Membership dues.

EMERITUS MEMBER:


An Emeritus Member is a member who has reached the age of 65 and

is in good standing for 15 consecutive years preceding the

application.


Applications for life and emeritus membership shall be reviewed and

validated by the Membership and Credentials Committee. Upon

recommendation of the National Board of Directors by a two-thirds

vote, the member shall be conferred the title Life or Emeritus

member.

DUTIES OF A REGULAR MEMBER :


1.He must abide by the by-laws, codes and policies of the College.


2.He shall pay all dues and other obligations at a specified period as stated on Article XV of the PCOM Constitution and By-Laws.


3.He shall earn the required CME units as prescribed by PCOM as stated in Article VII, Section 1 of this Code.


4.He must strive to attend all scientific meetings and conventions of the College, except in case of disability or illness and such other reasons that may be deemed proper.


5.He shall conduct himself according to the principles of medical ethics set by the Philippine Medical Association and the College.

 

DIPLOMATE IN GOOD STANDING 

A Diplomate has all the rights and privileges of a regular member in good standing.

PRIVILEGES:

•He is entitled to the status of a specialist in Occupational Medicine with the right to affix the title “Diplomate” or “DPCOM” after his name in publications, professional cards and directories.

DUTIES:

•He shall sign the Roll of Diplomates and Fellows of the College and promise to uphold the standards of conduct contained in the Diplomate’s Pledge of the College.


FELLOW IN GOOD STANDING 


1.He possesses all the rights and privileges of a regular member in good standing.

2.He is entitled to the status of a specialist in Occupational Medicine with the right to affix the title “Fellow” or “FPCOM” after his name in publications, professional cards and directories.

DUTIES:

1.He shall sign the Roll of Diplomates and Fellows of the College and shall promise to uphold the standards of conduct contained in the Fellow’s Pledge of the College.

2.He shall conduct himself according to the principles of medical ethics set by the Philippine Medical Association and the College.

3.He shall attend the General Assembly Meeting of the College.

4.He shall pay all dues, fees and other assessment imposed by the college.

5.He shall actively participate in the activities of the college.

LIFE AND EMERITUS MEMBERS 


1.Shall possess the rights and privileges in accordance with previous member classifications whether regular, diplomate or fellow before his classification as life or emeritus member.

2.Life members are exempted from paying annual membership dues but shall pay Mutual Aid and special assessments.

3.Life members attending the National Annual and Midyear Convention shall pay only fifty percent (50%) of the registration fee.

4.Emeritus members are exempted from all dues except mutual aid fees.


Applying For PCOM Regular Membership   


REQUIREMENTS FOR REGULAR MEMBERSHIP:

 

Physician must be:


1.        Duly licensed to practice medicine in the Philippines

2.        Member in good standing of the PMA

3.        Must have completed satisfactorily a Basic Course in Occupational Medicine given by the College, any recognized medical school and/or institution, or the College of Public Health of the University of the Philippines

 4.        Must have been in ACTIVE PRACTICE of Occupational Medicine as defined by the College, whether in Private or Government Service, on full time or part time basis, for at least TWO Years.


The Committee shall require the applicant to submit the following documents and requirements:


1.        Certified true copy of Certificate of completion of Basic Course given by the College or other duly accredited institutions

2.        2” x 2” ID Photo (1 copy)

3.        Certificate of Good Standing from PMA

4.        Certificate of Employment

5.        Current PRC and PMA ID

6.        Endorsement letter from chapter

7.        Payment of P2,300.00 (Entrance Fee = P1,000.00; Annual Dues = P750.00; Mutual Aid; P500.00;

ICOH Fee P50.00 (Local Dues not yet included) to be made upon approval of the PCOM National Board.

Transfer of Membership


A member may transfer from one chapter to another. The procedure for the transfer shall be

the following:


a. Fill-up Request to Transfer Form and submit to Chapter of origin.

b. Once approved, secure Letter of Endorsement from Chapter of origin to be given to the

receiving Chapter.

c. In cases that request is sent to the Secretariat, it should then be channeled to the Chapter of

origin.

d. The receiving Chapter must acknowledge receipt of endorsement from the Chapter of origin and

shall notify the College through the Membership and Credentials Committee of the approved

transfer.

e. In the event of the refusal of the local chapter of origin and/or receiving chapter, the Chapter

should then issue a letter explaining the reason for the refusal, the member may file an appeal

with the National Board of Directors whose decision shall be final;


A member who has transferred shall not be allowed to vote in the chapter elections within

the fiscal year of the transfer. However, such member, if qualified, is allowed to vote or be voted upon

in the national elections.


Leave of Absence


A member, through a written notice to his chapter,  may apply for a leave of absence

from the College for a maximum period of two years. After the lapse of the two-year period, the

member must re-apply for extension or termination of leave.


The member shall be exempted from all financial obligations and CME requirements during this

period. However, he shall be required to pay for the mutual aid fund when he files for leave.
